The Historical Society of Cecil County received a donation of
$1,000 from the North East Wal-Mart.
This generous contribution, from the Company’s Good Works Project, is
helping underwrite an exhibit entitled “Cecil Soldiers: Stories from the World
War II Generation,” which opens on November 11. The exhibit explores the experiences of men and women of Cecil
County who served as soldiers, airmen, sailors, medical personnel, and
munitions workers during the Second World War.
This important contribution from Wal-Mart helped matched a grant from
the Maryland Humanities Council.
The contribution is part of the Wal-Mart
Good Works community involvement program, which is based on the philosophy of
operating globally and giving back locally, according to the Wal-Mart
Foundation Web Site. The grassroots
style of giving enables company associates to identify and support
organizations that are improving the quality of life in their
communities," the web site adds.
This contribution was made upon the opening of the North East and
Elkton Stores, and according to a company press release the stores announced a
combined total of $28,000 in donations through Wal-Mart’s Good Works community
involvement program to a number of Cecil County nonprofits.
