1874 Chesapeake and Delaware Canal Company Map of Cecil County nearby Delaware

This map, from the C & D Canal Company annual report of 1874,  shows Cecil County and the part of Delaware that is in the vicinity of the canal. In addition to the actual route of the canal, it shows two proposed routes -- Strickland's & Latrobe's. This map was drawn for the Canal Company by Tanner, a most respected cartographer. It also shows the three principal roads that traversed the county: (1) A northern route that crossed from Pennsylvania into Cecil and took travelers down to Port Deposit to cross the Susquehanna; (2)the central roadway, crossing from Delaware in Cecil, and passing through the heart of the County; and (3) The eastern shore route from Elkton to points south on Maryland's Eastern Shore. Bohemia, the tract of land just south of the Canal, is clearly marked on the map.
